Volunteer as a 211 phone operator. People in need can call 211 to find assistance and resources for critical needs such as food, housing, and health care. As a volunteer you would be trained to use our database of over 3000 resources to assist callers. Volunteers must be caring individuals who want to help others, be able to use a computer, and have excellent telephone communication skills. We ask volunteers to commit to 4 hours per week for 6 months. Hours would be between 8-5 Mondays through Fridays.
Volunteer for HELPline. HELPline is a 24 hour a day Crisis and Suicide Intervention Hotline. Volunteers answer the phones and help de-escalate callers who are feeling overwhelmed by their situations and perhaps considering suicide. People also call for other forms of crisis such as depression, drug abuse or family problems. Extensive training is provided. Volunteers may work from home. Training is scheduled 3-4 times per year and you would be enrolled in the next training.
Volunteer Opportunities at Riverside 211 Community Connect:
Information and Referral Specialist: Assist 211 Helpline callers get connected to resources in Riverside County! Requires 30 hours of training (which we supply)
After Hours – HELPline Counselor : Be the voice at the other end that helps save a life. We supply the 52 hours of training required.
Follow Up Specialist: Follow up with Helpline and 211 callers to ensure they have been able to access the resources provided to them.
Resource Assistant: Work directly with our resource specialists to gather up-to-date information on services available in Riverside.
Outreach Ambassador: Promote and help build awareness about 211 in a variety of ways including attending community events, conducting phone customer surveys and distribute our marketing materials.
Grant Writer/Fundraiser Assistant: Gain substantial experience in nonprofit development practices including research, grant and contract writing, event planning, and donor prospects.
Receptionist: Be the first point of contact and make a positive, helpful, friendly and professional impressions for 211.
Digital Advocate: Increase awareness and generate revenue for 211 online without actually donating – anytime, anywhere.
Communications Assistant: Help to increase awareness of 211 through Social Media and developmental support of marketing materials.
Data Entry – Use your computer skills to help update vital data for ongoing case management.
